The Sunday before last, I took a walk and stumbled upon a public karaoke party in Mauerpark (German for “wall park” because the Berlin Wall used to run through it) that apparently happens every weekend, at least during the warmer months.  Apparently, it’s also listed in Lonely Planet guidebooks, which would help explain the large number of non-German accents that I heard there, though plenty of Germans attended, as well.

I stayed for about an hour, and it was actually pretty entertaining, though sometimes in the same sort of way that watching an early-stage American Idol episode is entertaining. But I’m not going to bash what may or may not be bad singing because karaoke is not about how much talent you have. Karaoke is about one thing only: giving it all you’ve got before you walk off stage.

Here are videos of parts of three short performances. To leave something of a surprise, I haven’t written the titles of the songs they’re singing — you’ll have to watch the videos to find out. 🙂
